Detroit has been named a member of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Innovation Team program, making the city eligible for up to three years of $500,000 grants. The money is to be used to focus on improving city life through the development of new and novel solutions to issues faced by city residents.
The Detroit Zoo smashed its all-time attendance record in 2016. It attracted 1,698,053 visitors in 2016, exceeding a goal of 1.5 million. It's the 11th consecutive year the Zoo's attendance has surpassed one million.
