The Fraternal Order of Eagles Taylor Aerie #3138 is planning their 15th annual fundraiser, Soup Up for Hospice, on Saturday, March 15, 2014. This fantastic event, driven by a committee and team of volunteers who are members of the Taylor Eagles Aerie, allows participants to enjoy various types of soup donated by area restaurants. Also, businesses complement the day with donations of other food items and/or items for auction or for sale to raise funds. The money raised through this community-driven event supports Hospice of Michigan’s Open Access Program. As a non-profit hospice (Federal ID Number 38-2255529), our one-of-a-kind Open Access Program cares for all hospice-appropriate patients who need and seek our care, regardless of their age, diagnosis or ability to pay. Hospice of Michigan cares for those who do not have insurance, those who may require a procedure for comfort that is not covered by insurance, and those who do not fit the requirements of other hospices. This commitment costs Hospice of Michigan approximately $4 million each year beyond what is reimbursed by Medicare, Medicaid and insurance companies. Support from loyal donors makes it possible for us to carry out our commitment to the community. Thank you for your consideration to support Soup Up for Hospice.

We're a nonprofit that has a few missions: We want to connect and support families who are affected by congenital heart defects with support groups, comfort bags during their hospital stays and legacy boxes when a child dies. We also want to raise awareness that CHDs are the No. 1 birth defect, affecting about 1 in 100 live births, and that CHDs kill more children each year than all forms of pediatric cancer combined. We could use donations of items for our comfort bags that go to families whose children are undergoing heart procedures at the two local Children's Hospitals. Those items include notebooks, pens, snacks, bottle water, coloring or activity books for kids, crayons, crossword puzzle books for parents, small or medium new stuff animals for kids, and mints.
