BUY MICHIGAN NOW ANNOUNCES CELEBRATION OF MICHIGAN’S 175TH ANNIVERSARY ON JANUARY 26

Date: January 17, 2012

(Livonia, January 17, 2012) – Buy Michigan Now has announced plans to celebrate Michigan’s 175th anniversary as a state, which is January 26, 2012. The campaign is asking residents, businesses, media, and fans of Michigan to take advantage of the landmark anniversary to tout positive aspects of the Great Lakes State through social media, as well as live events.

“Sometimes it’s difficult for Michigan to get the positive attention it deserves for all of the unique beauty and bounty we bring to the world,” said Lisa Diggs, Founder of Buy Michigan Now. “We think a landmark moment like 175 years of statehood provides an excellent opportunity to change the national conversation about our great state. The plan is simple: we’re asking everyone who loves Michigan like we do, to take advantage of social media and all their other resources to demonstrate their pride in Michigan.”

During the week of January 22-28, the campaign encourages fans of the state to upload pictures of Michigan sights and products, create enthusiastic videos, share links to positive stories, and post status updates that tout what they love about Michigan. Twitter users are asked to use the hashtag #Mich175 with all related messages.

Businesses and organizations are also invited to participate using social media and by creating live events to celebrate the state and introduce people to locally produced products. Hiller’s Markets, Tubby’s Grilled Submarines, Cloverleaf Bar and Restaurant, Dow Gardens, and the Michigan Historical Center, are just some of the organizations slated to participate thus far. For a complete list: http://www.buymichigannow.com/michigans_175th_anniversary.php
