Michigan Blue Pages

Date: July 30. 2008

Livonia, MI (July 30, 2008) – Buy Michigan Now, a campaign designed to promote and restore Michigan’s economy, is searching for the best and the brightest Michigan-based companies to be listed on their site., recently expanded and includes a searchable, online directory of Michigan-based businesses called Michigan Blue Pages

Named for the beautiful waters that surround the state, the Michigan Blue Pages have been added to help residents and businesses find Michigan-based organizations to meet their purchasing needs, thereby keeping more money inside the state. According to campaign founder, Lisa Diggs, “Many people are supportive of the idea of favoring Michigan-based businesses, but are unable or unwilling to do the research to find them. We created the Michigan Blue Pages to remove that barrier.”
To ensure accuracy for its visitors, Buy Michigan Now asks organizations to build their own listings. The process only takes a few minutes to complete. “We designed this tool to be a resource for both consumer and business to business searches, so all local companies are encouraged to take advantage of it”, Diggs said. “We also envision it as a showcase to the world of the burgeoning economic diversity and strength in Michigan, which is why we are actively seeking the best of the best.”
Businesses must meet one of the following three Michigan Identification Criteria (MICs) in order to be listed:
  • Operates entirely in Michigan
  • Headquartered in Michigan with additional operations outside the state
  • Michigan-owned franchise or affiliate – some fees or revenue paid outside the state.
All organizations, including associations and nonprofits, that meet one of those criteria are invited to list themselves by creating an account and following the simple steps to build a listing. Each account is entitled to one FREE Basic listing. Those wanting to maximize their marketing impact and help support the message of the campaign may opt for a Standard, Enhanced, or Premiere listing package ranging from $100-300 per year.
“I would like nothing more than to see every Michigan-based business listed, said Diggs, and we believe the free and affordable listing packages make that possible, especially for new and struggling businesses who may need exposure the most, yet lack marketing funds.”
Other New Features
The website also now includes Mich to Mich Opportunities where businesses can list their desire to find a qualified Michigan-based vendor, subcontractor, or partner to meet their needs. That is coupled with Mich to Mich Connections, which allows them to celebrate the new local alliances formed. The Fundraising Opportunities tool is designed to give Michigan businesses a forum to introduce community groups to available fundraising programs. Nonprofit Needs gives charitable organizations the opportunity to identify specific equipment & services they need so that individuals and/or businesses can help fulfill those needs. The site also includes good news happening throughout the state and several interactive features to engage the community.
The Campaign
Buy Michigan Now is a grassroots effort that was initiated in November of 2007 to help educate people of all ages about the benefits of buying locally and to stimulate positive thinking and actions in support of Michigan.
The Pledge
Buy Michigan Now also includes a Pledge to support Michigan-based organizations. Visitors to the site are encouraged to read the Pledge, and if they agree, add their name, city, and state, as a growing demonstration of support for Michigan businesses.
