Livonia, MI (November 24, 2008) – Buy Michigan Now, a campaign designed to promote and restore Michigan’s economy, is helping families celebrate Thanksgiving, while supporting their local economy. Www.BuyMichiganNow.com, recently added a downloadable Michigan Grocery Guide.
The Grocery Guide features brands of foods and beverages produced by Michigan-based companies. According to campaign founder, Lisa Diggs, “Our research indicates that if every Michigan household shifted just $10 of their weekly grocery purchases to Michigan companies, we could add $36 million a week to the state’s economy! Thinking Michigan first is one simple way that all of us can contribute to a more vibrant Michigan.”
The Grocery Guide is a supplement to the site’s most popular feature, the Michigan Blue Pages, an online directory of Michigan-based businesses. Diggs said, “We added the Grocery Guide in response to moms who told us that they want to buy more from Michigan companies, but often they are in the market with their kids, and reading labels just isn’t practical. They asked for a tool they could take with them, and we’ve provided it.”
Both directories will be updated regularly. Businesses wishing to be included are asked to visit www.BuyMichiganNow.com and create a listing in the Michigan Blue Pages. Those that produce foods or beverages will then be considered for addition to the Grocery Guide as well. One Basic listing is available for FREE to every Michigan-based business. Companies wanting to maximize their marketing impact, and help support the message of the campaign, may opt for a Standard, Enhanced, or Premiere listing package ranging from $100-300 per year.
All businesses must meet one of the following three Michigan Identification Criteria (MICs) in order to be listed:
- Operates entirely in Michigan
- Headquartered in Michigan with additional operations outside the state
- Michigan-owned franchise or affiliate – some fees or revenue paid outside the state.
