Legendary Tigers ballplayer Hank Greenberg hit a grand slam in the ninth inning of the last game of the regular season to clinch the pennant for the Tigers on this day in 1945. Greenberg, who had missed spring training and games at the beginning of the season to serve his country in the military, still set a major league record with 11 multi-homer games in 1945.
