It was almost a half century ago that Emily T Gail opened Emily’s Across the Street. It was located across the street from her first store, which was a 108-sq ft. space in the then iconic Penobscot Bldg. down the hall from the Caucus Club. There she created the Emily Detroit Run, the first run through the streets of Detroit. She also coined a popular movement with using the simple, yet iconic phrase, “say nice things about Detroit.” You might say hers was the original local culture shop and authentic Detroit apparel.

Now Ink Detroit has partnered with Emily to bring that message back. Sure, more people are saying nice things about Detroit these days, but that doesn’t make the message any less relevant.
