While campaigning for Presidential Candidate John Charles Fremont, Abraham Lincoln visited Kalamazoo, Michigan, on this day in 1856. In his remarks Lincoln stated, “The question of slavery, at the present day, should be not only the greatest question, but very nearly the sole question.”
