For a hundred and thirty years, Dearborn-based Carhartt has been making apparel for hardworking people and the great outdoors. Yet, despite being based in a state surrounded by lakes, the clothing has really been geared toward landlubbers, until now, that is. Surf City meets the Motor City, as Carhartt partners with Hurley, a surf lifestyle brand based in California. The family-owned businesses are joining forces to launch a new line created especially for those who spend much of their time near H2O.

“In the same way Hurley is still driven by its founder’s vision to empower peoples’ passionate pursuits in and around the water, Carhartt remains committed to serving the needs of hardworking people 130 years after Hamilton Carhartt crafted his first bib overalls,” said Tony Ambroza, chief brand officer at Carhartt, in a press release.

The line is designed to be lightweight, functional, and durable. The debut assortment will feature nine products that are scheduled to launch this spring. The introductory men’s styles include a jacket, pullover, beanie, and short, as well as a long and short sleeve T-shirt. Included in the women’s launch styles are a jacket and long sleeve T-shirt.

Throughout the year, three additional product launches will correspond with each season to ensure consumers have the gear necessary to work in and around water all year long. Plans for colder seasons include hooded pullovers, ball caps, graphic T-shirts, bibs, vests, and jackets.

Social media posts regarding the collaboration have begun to pop up with the hashtag #outworkthewater. Products from the Hurley X Carhartt collection are available for purchase online.
