Travel + Leisure magazine has recognized Detroit's Shinola Hotel on its 15th annual “It List”, which is a selection of the top new and renovated hotels in the entire world. The magazine’s March issue, on newsstands on Feb. 21, puts the Shinola Hotel on its list of North American properties alongside 23 other hotels.
The personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on 2020’s Best & Worst College Towns & Cities in America and Ann Arbor holds the top spot for small college towns. WalletHub compared more than 400 U.S. cities based on 31 key indicators of academic, social and economic growth potential.
Bloomberg named Ann Arbor America’s No. 3 tech hub, following only San Jose, CA, and Boulder, CO. Bloomberg scored cities on a 100-point scale, evaluating how many people have STEM jobs, science and engineering degrees, and advanced degrees. Kristin Fair Combs was given the he 2019 Connector Award, from The Policy Circle, a national nonpartisan nonprofit 501(c)3 organization committed to advancing women’s leadership. The recognition is for her work to further civil conversation, civic engagement and community involvement. Kristin has helped eleven women to start their own Policy circles in Michigan, Ohio, and North Carolina.
Detour Media, producers of the popular Detour Detroit newsletter, is one of 108 news entities from around the world selected to receive support from Google as part of its GNI Innovation Challenge. The funding is designed to enable these news entities to develop sustainable business models by diversifying revenue streams and/or increasing audience engagement.
Michigan has once again received the top award in the nation from the U.S. Small Business Administration State Trade Expansion Program for fiscal year 2020. In its ninth year of receiving STEP funds, Michigan received the maximum amount of $900,000, representing a $100,000 increase from the previous year.
Open Table, a world-wide online reservation system, has revealed its list of the top 50 Most Kid-Friendly Restaurants in American and two Frankenmuth, Michigan eateries made the list. Bavarian Inn Restaurant and Zehnder's both made the list, which is generated from diner reviews initially. Then all qualifying restaurants are scored based on tags like “kid-friendly” or “children-friendly”
